I had to come up with an anthropomorphic vulture who seemed intelligent, pragmatic and dominating.
In my mind he's someone highly placed in a Victorian-type society but also a very controversial figure because he got there on his own and thinks very differently from others. As the vulture is an omen of death I thought somewhere in his story he brings about great change to the way things are, but first by bringing everything crumbling to the ground.
